A growing Yorkshire animal hospital has appointed one of Europe’s most experienced heart specialists as its new head of cardiology.

Chris Linney has joined Paragon Veterinary Referrals, in Wakefield, from fellow Linnaeus practice Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service and is the only diplomate in his field to be practicing in Yorkshire.

Chris, an RCVS and EBVS specialist in cardiology, will develop both the medical cardiology service and deliver a new interventional cardiology service to complement the existing surgical offering at Paragon, which is investing around £145,000 in state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment and operating facilities to support the service.

He becomes the ninth diplomate to join the team at Paragon, which opened its doors in February 2018 and now has specialists in emergency and critical care, soft tissue surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, internal medicine, anaesthesia and analgesia and neurology.

Chris said: “I’m super excited to be joining the Paragon team. I’ve had a great time at Willows and couldn’t think of a better place than Paragon to continue my passion for all things cardiology.”

Chris, who has a keen interest in congenital heart disease and performing cardiac catheterisation procedures for correction of heart defects, has garnered a reputation as one of the most respected clinicians in his field over his five years at Willows.

He said the expansion at Paragon, led by clinical director Sophie Adamantos, made it an ideal time to make the move.

He added: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Paragon, which is growing phenomenally to service the region whilst it cements itself as one of the leading referral centres in the north of England.

“The investment and expansion which is taking place at Paragon will allow us to develop another globally-recognised cardiology centre within Linnaeus.”

Linnaeus chief medical officer Professor Séverine Tasker added: “Chris is a hugely-respected clinician and a valued member of the Linnaeus family, so we’re delighted to see him choose to take his next career move within the group and retain his outstanding expertise in cardiology.”

Paragon is a multi-disciplinary centre which specialises in expert pet care across a range of services including anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, pain management and soft tissue surgery.
