A regional support manager at a top group of primary care practices has spoken of his pride at taking up a leadership role within the same surgeries as he first trained.
Luke Frewin’s rapid career progression has seen him appointed to a managerial role within Village Vet, which has 30 practices across London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, and which is where Luke embarked upon his veterinary career.
It is a journey which first saw him join Linnaeus-owned Village Vet’s Winchmore Hill practice as a student, before moving on to another Linnaeus outfit in the shape of renowned referral hospital, London Vet Specialists (LVS).
Luke joined LVS as an imaging and oncology nurse before moving on to take up the position of senior nursing manager and, latterly, hospital manager at the busy Belsize Lane site.
He has now rejoined the Village Vet group, which works closely with LVS, as regional support manager, something of a homecoming.
He said: “I have worked with talented and dedicated clinicians throughout my career at both Village Vet and LVS, and I’m delighted to be continuing with that in my new position.
“The fact I am now working with Village Vet, the very place I started my veterinary career, is really nice and I’m hoping to make a positive impact in the role.
“As regional support manager, my main responsibilities include managing practices across the group on a day-to-day basis and ensuring our teams have the tools and support they need to work to the best of their ability.
“I’m looking forward to working with our varied and hardworking teams, while empowering them to be the very best they can be. One of my priorities is to build upon the work already done across the group to ensure efficient and effective teams, able to provide the very best level of care and service possible.”
Luke is looking forward to the challenge of this new role, having seen his star rise rapidly throughout his career with Village Vet and LVS.
However, challenges are nothing new to Luke, who received his Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2014, as he has also developed a successful sporting career alongside his veterinary work.
The regional nursing manager is a second black belt in karate, having taken up the martial art when at primary school.
He said: “I started Karate at age of six, complete with a broken arm! I wanted to be able to defend myself as I was always much smaller than everyone else.
“What started as a hobby, quickly became a lifestyle. I maintained training and competing throughout my nursing exams and busy work life and have competed in Malta among other countries.
“Karate has taught me great self-control and discipline and will continue to be a part of my life forever.”
It is no doubt Luke has been a knock-out success in his career so far.
