Rescued pups and Floppy Rescued pups Rudi (left) and Floppy (right) Sick pups left abandoned to die in a box over Christmas are now doing well in their brand new loving homes After all the recent overwhelming public interest in these precious pups, here’s the latest update on their progress so far - and it’s all really good news! Grove Lodge Vets are delighted to report that the surviving lurcher puppies from the cruelly dumped box of young dogs in Lancing over the festive period are continuing to go from strength to strength; now happily being fostered all over the South East thanks to Southern Lurcher Rescue who organised the fosterers and local Dog Warden Russ, who even took the time to drive the puppies over to Portsmouth on his day off! As well as receiving generous donations from the public, and veterinary pharmaceutical company Virbac who donated thousands of pounds worth of life-saving treatment after seeing a single ‘tweet’, Grove Lodge Vets would also like to give thanks to the extremely generous Worthing and Adur Council who very kindly agreed to foot a large proportion of the outstanding bill for the round-the-clock intensive care of these poorly pups at their 24 hour veterinary hospital in Worthing. Council Dog Warden Keith says "Worthing and Adur Council is delighted to be able to help with these abandoned puppies as part of our on-going commitment to caring for stray dogs in this area. We are keen to help ensure that these puppies and other stray dogs have a secure, happy and healthy future with their responsible owners". Pictured pups Rudi and Floppy have both put on weight just like their brothers and are very much enjoying being normal, mischievous, lively puppies. In fact one household are so delighted with their 'foster' dog that it is more than likely he’ll become a permanent family member! Marc Abraham, vet at Grove Lodge Southwick, says “The team here at Grove Lodge Vets is thrilled to hear how well these poorly puppies are doing now, as an enormous amount of dedication by the emergency team was involved in ensuring they recovered from their ordeal; and it would be hard for anyone not to fall in love with these little guys, especially when staff were caring for them 24 hours a day nursing them back to full health. “We would urge everyone to have their dogs vaccinated to avoid them contracting the deadly parvovirus. If you’re considering rehoming one of these gorgeous dudes, think carefully about your lifestyle. With the dreadful start they had, it’s vital to understand the on-going commitment needed to ensure they are fully socialised and trained so they remain a pleasure to have in your home and society in general.” If you would like to make a donation towards the lurchers' care, please do so via the Worthing & District Animal Rescue Service (WADARS) website: www.wadars.co.uk or call 0300 3030999
