Norbrook To Showcase Parasite Control Range At UK Dairy Day

Norbrook will be showcasing a suite of parasite control solutions including Eprizero, Spotinor and teat sealant NoroSeal at UK Dairy Day in the International Centre in Telford on Wednesday 14th September. The annual one day event aims to provide support and information for the dairy industry at a key decision making time for winter.

Norbrook’s advisors will be on hand with advice on a range of treatments and strategies to help producers improve herd health and to prepare for the season ahead. Norbrook will also be offering all delegates the opportunity to learn about the calcium-rich oral bolus Calcitrace D3 and enter a competition to win a Bateman Calf Dehorner Crate, worth more than £500.

Stephanie Small BVSc MRCVS, Veterinary Advisor at Norbrook says gutworm, lungworm and flies have long represented a triple threat for dairy farmers as it is estimated that outbreaks of lungworm alone cost £50?£100 per head in growing cattle, and that lost milk production cost in adults could reach £3 per cow per day[1]. Fly infestation in cattle, meanwhile, can result in reduced calf weight gain, increased incidence of summer mastitis and reduced milk yields of up to 20%[2].

Stephanie Small BVSc MRCVS said: “It is important for producers to be armed with the latest technology and information in order to treat herds with the right products at the right time.

“When appropriate, treating adult cows with anthelmintics has many proven benefits on performance: studies show improved fat, protein and milk solids – whilst yield improvement after treatment can increase by up to two litres per cow per day[3].”

Pour-on solution Eprizero has a 28 day persistency for gutworm and lungworm infections, whilst spot-on treatment Spotinor is effective against flies, lice and other external parasites.

Norbrook’s advisors will also explain how teat sealant NoroSeal can help prevent bacterial infections in dairy herds. NoroSeal mimics the cow’s own keratin teat barrier, offering immediate protection.

“Clinical mastitis carries significant costs, but that can be avoided if timely action is taken. There are various treatments available, but studies have shown the risk of clinical mastitis is significantly reduced by using a teat sealant during the dry period, when compared to animals who are not treated at all, and those treated with antibiotic dry cow therapy alone.  As the industry moves towards more responsible prescribing choices, internal teat sealants provide producers with a safe effective way to reduce mastitis, whilst reducing overall antibiotic usage,” Ms Small explained.

Norbrook can be found in the Ludlow Suite at the International Centre on 14th September 2016.
