NORTH SOMERSETS HOMELESS DOGS RECEIVE LASTING PARASITE PROTECTION

Bayer Animal Health have teamed up with Beaconsfield vets in Weston-super-Mare to support a local homeless initiative, providing free Seresto® collars to dogs and their owners living on the streets.
On Friday 6th October, the ‘Somewhere to Go’ charity for homeless people, supported by North Somerset Council, hosted a health and wellbeing day for local people in need of complimentary care. Bringing a number of different local organisations together, the event provided, among many other wellbeing experiences, health checks from community nurses, food bank offerings, advice from North Somerset Council’s health trainers, as well as pet health checks by local practice Beaconsfield Vets.
In support of the initiative, Bayer donated free of charge Seresto® collars, providing the dogs with parasite treatment that could withstand their often challenging environment for a long period of time. The dogs received health treatment and advice on the day, with vets from Beaconsfield prescribing the collars.
Helen Avison, Veterinary Surgeon at Beaconsfield Vets, said: “We wanted to get involved with the health and well-being day because we think it’s a fantastic initiative that really helps homeless people get back on their feet.
“By providing the dogs with a health check, we were able to make sure they received any vital care or treatment that was needed and this included parasite treatment. By administering a Seresto® collar to the dogs, we could ensure they will receive a long period of protection from fleas and ticks with just one simple application. The collar also repels ticks, so helps provide protection against potential illnesses as a result of a tick bite.”
