Paul Horwood - Farm GVA IVC Evidensia
Paul Horwood Joins IVC Evidensia Farm Vets As Group Veterinary Advisor
Following the success of the IVC Evidensia Farm Vets launch, the group has appointed a new Farm Group Veterinary Advisor (GVA).
Paul Horwood has joined the team of GVAs, who work to influence policy and practice at every level, to help shape the future for the group’s Farm Vets teams and for the farms they work with. He joins long-standing Farm GVA, David Stockton.
Paul has had a varied career so far, initially an Officer in the military, he left and trained as a vet, but kept his links with the military, returning to the front line in Afghanistan in 2012 with the Grenadier Guards.
Qualifying from Royal Veterinary College in 2000, he joined Westpoint Farm Vets, becoming partner, owner and director along the way. In 2015 the business was sold to Private Equity and Paul remained as Managing Director of the farm animal side of the business until 2017.
He then diversified away from clinical practice and set up Sandstone Communications together with some other interesting people he had met during his career, from global business leaders, Olympians, Fighter pilots and elite military operators. Sandstone delivers management and leadership training to professionals around the globe, drawing on the team’s experiences of business, mountaineering and the military.
Paul has a Diploma in Bovine Reproduction from Liverpool University, is a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of Vetlife, is on BVA council, is a mental health first aider, is a founder of VetYou, a financial advice platform for the veterinary profession and has recently started a podcast called Because I Can.
Jan Lievaart, Group Head of Farm and Equine said,
“The growth rate of the farm side of the business has been astounding with over 10,000 farms, estates and small holdings under the care of our 400+ farm vets. I am excited to see what the future holds for our teams. Our strength is our vibrant, knowledgeable community. With Paul on board, his wealth of experience and knowledge will prove invaluable in helping guide the team.”
Paul is delighted to be joining the team. He said,
"I am really chuffed to be joining the Farm team at IVC Evidensia. Their impressive growth, their commitment to cutting edge technologies, their training and support for delivering long-term and rewarding careers within our sector, really inspired me to get involved. I’m looking forward to supporting this culture going forward, helping shape the future of the IVC Evidensia’s Farm Vets team, and the services they deliver.”
