Prestigious U.S. Recognition For Leading Eastcott Referrals Specialist
A European Veterinary Specialist in Dentistry and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry has earned further recognition after gaining a prestigious US Fellowship award.
Peter Southerden, Head of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Eastcott Referrals, in Swindon, has been recognised by the renowned American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC).
Dr Southerden has become an AVDC Founding Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a move that further enhances Eastcott’s reputation as a centre of excellence for dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS).
Founding Fellows of the AVDC are members of ECVS, ACVS, EVDC and AVDC who have made outstanding contributions to the discipline of veterinary oral and maxillofacial surgery.
There are a total of 14 founding fellows and Dr Southerden is the only one practising in Europe. The award will mean it’s possible for an OMFS Fellowship programme to be delivered at Eastcott Referrals in the future.
Dr Southerden said: “To be accepted as an AVDC Fellow is a real honour and I’m delighted to be awarded this position. There is a pretty rigorous process to go through to become a Founding Fellow of the AVDC, so it’s extremely gratifying to be recognised.”
Dr Southerden’s prestigious award showcases the exceptional level of dental treatment and OMFS offered at Eastcott, with another member of its team also celebrating recognition in the same discipline.
After six years of study, Andrew Perry has become a European Veterinary Specialist in Dentistry to further boost the Wiltshire referral centre’s dental department.
Dr Southerden said: “We all congratulate Andrew on his achievement. He is a hugely valuable and experienced member of the team here.
“It’s a very exciting time for Eastcott, as we seek to expand our dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery department and develop new techniques in OMFS.
“We have a highly experienced team and will adding another Resident in the new year, so we’re in an extremely strong position to deal with a large caseload and able to see a wide range of different cases.”
