Team members from the oncology department at a Cheshire animal hospital are skipping into action to raise money for charity.
The ‘100 Skips a Day in June Challenge’ is an initiative to support Cancer Research UK and 10 oncology vets, nurses and a patient care assistant at Linnaeus-owned Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) have jumped to it in a bid to do their bit.
The team, who themselves treat animals suffering from cancer, are already well into the challenge, with all of them relishing the exercise routine while raising money for a good cause.
Lavra Zajc, a European veterinary specialist in small animal oncology at NWVS, said: “Cancer is a subject which is close to all our hearts as it affects so many people. In fact, one in two people will get cancer in their lifetime.
“Of course, working in the oncology department at an animal hospital means we see, on a daily basis, how cancer affects animals and we have long-term patients with whom we have built very close bonds.
“The team literally jumped at the opportunity to help Cancer Research UK in the 100 Skips a Day challenge, meaning by the end of June we will have all completed at least 3,000 skips.”
The other NWVS oncology team members taking part in the skipping challenge are Mary Marrington, Jessica Grant, Estel.la Ciriano Cerda, Valentina Granziera, Su Wei Tay, Caroline Boothroyd, Rebecca Rudolf, Victoria Twist and Melissa Gaskell.
Lavra added: “Just as in human medicine, the field of veterinary oncology continues to develop and we aim to ensure that every patient maintains a good quality of life.”
