Pets requiring complex dental work can now be treated at a Somerset veterinary referral centre with the arrival of a new dental surgeon.

Annabel McFadzean joins Linnaeus-owned Cave Veterinary Specialists, near Wellington, to head up its new dentistry and oral surgery service, which also boasts a brand-new dedicated dental suite.

Clinician in veterinary dentistry Annabel said: “Cave now has a purpose-built dentistry suite that allows our team to provide world-class treatment for dentistry and oral conditions. We’re excited to now be able to provide dental services to referring vets in the region. Being able to offer these services at Cave is great news for pet and pet owners from across the south-west.

“As a multidisciplinary hospital, dentistry cases are supported by our specialists from a range of disciplines including anaesthesia, surgery and oncology.”

Nele Van den Steen, clinical director at Cave, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Annabel to Cave and be able to offer pet owners and referring vets the benefit of her extensive experience in dentistry and oral surgery.

“She will be a great asset and will perfectly compliment our industry-leading specialists already providing exceptional care across a whole host of specialisms at Cave.”

Among the dentistry and oral surgery cases being accepted are fractured teeth, discoloured teeth, malocclusions, periodontal disease, complicated extractions, maxillofacial trauma and oncological surgery.

Annabel graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2010 and then completed a rotating internship at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals. She subsequently worked in primary care practice whilst achieving a postgraduate certificate in small animal surgery.

Annabel started a three-year full-time residency in dentistry and oral surgery at Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, also owned by Linnaeus, in 2020, before joining Cave.

Outside of work Annabel, enjoys spending time at the beach with her family and dogs, and wine tasting.

Cave, located just minutes from Jct 26 on the M5, offers comprehensive, specialist-led services in anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedic surgery and soft tissue surgery.
