Stellar Recovery By Luna Who Can Run Again
An energetic Springador who suffered a serious leg injury after falling down a rabbit hole is now running around at a ‘million miles an hour’ thanks to a leading Cambridgeshire animal hospital.
Eighteen-month-old Luna needed fusion of several of the bones in her right foreleg at Linnaeus-owned DWR Veterinary Specialists near Six Mile Bottom following the freak accident.
Luna’s owner, Deborah Marshall from Maldon in Essex, said: “We don't know 100 per cent how Luna damaged her leg but we suspect she stepped into a rabbit hole when we were out on a walk. Luna came out of the bushes limping and I had to carry her home.
“Whatever it was that happened, the accident tore all her soft tissues in the foreleg. She was only 18 months old and it was horrid to think she might not run again.”
When Luna arrived at DWR Veterinary Specialists she was immediately put under the care of the experienced orthopaedic team.
Simon Tappin, clinical director at DWR Veterinary Specialists, said: “Understandably, Luna’s owners were devastated at the thought that their active young dog might not be able to run or walk again.
“The surgery Luna needed was a major, and intricate, procedure but DWR has the experience and facilities to successfully perform such a complex operation.”
Deborah added: “I was shocked and concerned for her outcome as she was reduced to virtually no exercise at all.
“I also understand the long recovery required for that type of operation as my husband also had to have the equivalent operation for humans.
“However, it's so lovely to now see Luna running around at a million miles an hour, something I feared I might never see again.
“Luna’s life is totally transformed. She can run again and enjoys everything she enjoyed before. Sometimes if she’s had a very busy few days she’ll have a quieter day just to rest it up a bit.
“I’m so grateful for the team at DWR Veterinary Specialists who have given Luna a second lease of life after a potentially life-altering injury.”
Simon Tappin added: “Luna’s owners say that since her operation she now bounds about without a care like the crazy Springador she is. It’s great to hear this and makes it all worthwhile.”
