A vet nurse at a leading farm practice in the Midlands is celebrating an outstanding performance in her national veterinary examinations.

Rosie Brain, from Shires Farm Animal Vets practice in Eccleshall, Staffordshire, scored top marks when she sat her Registered Animal Medicines Advisor exams.

Rosie, who joined the Linnaeus-owned vet practice in 2016, admitted she was taken aback when she received the news.

She said: “I was really surprised and shocked, but obviously proud and excited, too.

“I found out I had passed the exam back in June but didn't get the letter about top marks until November.

“I didn't really celebrate at the time, but I am certainly looking forward to the awards ceremony in January!”

Rosie’s new qualifications mean she’s now able to make an even greater contribution to Shires and their busy farm operation.

She explained: “It’s an extra step up for me on the farm side of the practice, which I really enjoy.

“It’s a varied role which includes communicating with farmers and now I can prescribe and dispense certain categories of medicine and give even more advice.

“For instance, I’ll be able to help farmers with such things as worming advice when there is not a vet available.

“I also qualified as a Roms mobility scorer this year, which means I am registered to go out and score cows for lameness, which most dairy farms now need for their milk contract.

“So, it’s been a very good year and I’m looking forward to using all my new skills to help even more with our farm clients and add even more value to the Shires farm team.”

Shires Farm Animal Vets is a team of dedicated and progressive farm animal vets with more than 150 years of service to the farmers of Staffordshire, Cheshire and North Shropshire.
