Vetstream Extends Its Partnership With CABI On Digita Cattle Content Service, Bovis
Veterinary digital content specialist Vetstream has announced that it is extending its relationship with CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International) in the development of Vetlexicon Bovis, its digital point-of-care resource for veterinarians specialising in cattle and general livestock. Bovis, an extension to Vetstream’s Vetlexicon series and its first service in the livestock sector, will be launched at World Buiatrics Congress in Japan in August 2018.
Bovis brings together the collective knowledge of cattle specialists from around the world and presents it in the form of peer-reviewed, evidenced-based articles. Content spans all aspects of cattle veterinary care, from farm to fork, with articles supported by high quality images, audios and short films. Fact sheets to help vets in communicating with farmer clients are included and cow welfare and best practice standards are encouraged throughout.
CABI is a publisher and a not-for-profit inter-governmental development organisation which focuses on agricultural and environmental issues in the developing world. It is providing cattle breed-related content from its Animal Health and Production Compendium and Encyclopedia of Livestock Breeds and Breeding to Vetstream. CABI’s breed content will complement the wide range of clinical articles, images, audios, narrated films and farmer information sheets already contained within Bovis to assist veterinarians in their day-to-day work. The information is constantly updated and extended through the addition of new resources to reflect the latest evidence-based thinking.
As part of the collaboration, Vetstream will market books from CABI’s range of livestock texts through Bovis to give livestock vets access to as much clinical information as possible.
Vetstream specialises in the provision of digital reference services to the veterinary sector. Its Vetlexicon service is the world's largest online peer-reviewed veterinary reference tool. Vetlexicon already includes Canis (for dogs), Felis (for cats), Lapis (for rabbits), Exotics (for exotics) and Equis (for horses), together with practice management resource, Practis. Vetstream already partners with CABI to promote the VetMed Resource so that Vetlexicon subscribers have access to the details of the latest published veterinary research to support an evidence-based approach to veterinary practice.
Commenting on its partnership with CABI, Dr Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, said: “In developing Vetlexicon Bovis, we are supporting livestock vets by providing them with a comprehensive point-of-care resource which they can access at any time through any internet-enabled smart phone, tablet or other device.
“Bovis will include a wealth of general clinical resources contributed by distinguished livestock veterinarians but we recognize that it is also important to provide specific information on particular cattle breeds. As a global publisher, CABI produces world-renowned resources in areas including veterinary sciences. The breed-specific information it is offering us will be peer-reviewed and added to the clinical resources already contained within Bovis to cover breeds from across the world.
“We are delighted to be working with CABI in the development of Bovis and believe that our collaboration will offer livestock veterinarians a convenient and easy-to-use clinical resource that is comprehensive and constantly updated.”
Mrs Caroline Makepeace, Head of Content Strategy at CABI, said: “We are very pleased to be working with Vetstream on this important new project and it gives CABI the opportunity to extend the reach of its content to practitioners and to put information into the hands of the busy clinician. CABI has always published high quality content and it will be good to see it reaching a much wider audience through this new collaboration with Vetstream.”
Mr Robert Taylor, Editorial Director at CABI, added: “This is an exciting development that builds on our partnership with Vetstream to bring VetMed Resource and our veterinary information into practice. Bovis will be a valuable support for veterinarians and cattle producers around the world, including the 600 million poor smallholder farmers in the developing world who depend on livestock for their livelihoods, which are very much part of the Sustainable Development Goals that are core to CABI which is committed to improving lives across the globe.”
