Well-Known for their captivating displays at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association’s (BSAVA) annual Congress, Vétoquinol went one better this year. With the help of special guest Paralympic cycling gold medallist Mark Colbourne MBE, they persuaded delegates to pedal over 400 miles in a virtual cycle ride, to raise money for Dogs for the Disabled and Petsavers.
Two road bicycles on the stand were connected to turbo trainers and a computer and the delegates’ task was to travel ‘virtually’ from Vétoquinol UK’s head office in Buckingham via the Dogs for the Disabled head office in Banbury and Petsavers head office in Gloucester, to BSAVA in Birmingham. This equated to a sizeable trip of 200 miles on each bicycle.
Mark Colbourne MBE helped to recruit delegates to the worthy cause and gave flagging cyclists motivational tips along the journey. He was joined on the stand by Peter Gorbing, CEO of Dogs for the Disabled and Matthieu Frechin, CEO of Vétoquinol but it was Gail Jones’s beautiful yellow Labrador Remy who really stole the limelight. Remy has transformed Gail’s life since he was given to her by Dogs for the Disabled in December 2010.
“Thanks to the determination, enthusiasm and admirably strong legs of BSAVA vets and vet nurses we achieved our goal of 400 miles with a day to spare,” said Martin Gough. “In fact the delegates were so full of energy that we clocked up an extra 130 miles by the end of BSAVA. As a result we donated a total of £3000 to these two very worthy causes.”
Vétoquinol is responsible for a leading range of companion animal products including the anti-epileptic treatment Epiphen and Cimalgex chewable analgesic and anti-inflammatory tablets. The company provides a broad range of support services to practices including the popular website www.CiMyDog.co.uk which received over 150 new registrations to the veterinary section at BSAVA this year.
