A leading vet practice in Surrey has opened a state-of-the-art wellness centre to further extend the wide range of treatments it provides for pets.

The Wellness Centre at Oak Barn Vets in East Shalford Lane, Guildford, is now providing innovative animal rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and K-Laser care, in the new purpose-built centre, which even has an underwater treadmill to put patients through their paces.

The exciting new project is being run by Oak Barn’s veterinary physiotherapist and hydrotherapist Kerrie Oakley and registered veterinary nurse Katie Clarke.

Kerrie said: “The benefits of post-operative rehabilitation should never be underestimated, because just like us, animals benefit hugely from rehab after a surgical procedure.

“That’s why we’re delighted to have launched The Wellness Centre at Oak Barn Vets, where we will ensure each treatment plan is tailored to the individual patient to ensure the best outcome for the patient.

“It’s such an exciting development for us, as hydrotherapy and physiotherapy can be excellent forms of rehabilitation and used alongside other therapies such as K-Laser care, as they complement each other well.

“We have a purpose-built hydrotherapy suite housing an underwater treadmill which allows your pet to exercise while taking advantage of the therapeutic and buoyant effects of the water.

“We also offer physiotherapy as a standalone treatment or as part of a multimodal approach.

“The aim is to restore and maintain an animal’s range of movement, function and performance and restore patients’ independence following surgery or injury.

“These new services can also benefit those who have undergone orthopaedic procedures, require support for chronic conditions such as arthritis, those that need help with weight reduction as well as being a great tool for conditioning and strengthening.

“We can also devise a home exercise programme allowing owners to carry out additional exercises and programmes for their pets at home to further enhance their recovery.”
