Would You Like To Be An RSPCA Council Member?

The RSPCA Council comprises up to 25 volunteers elected to serve as the charity trustees of the Society. Fifteen national Council members are elected by the votes of the whole RSPCA membership and serve for three years, retiring on a rotational basis. This year, national members David Canavan, Sally Phillips, Jill Thompson, Elly Unmack and Angela Walder are due to retire and may seek re-election. The role Charity trustees are responsible for the effective leadership and direction of the charity and decide upon policy, strategy and the allocation of funds. RSPCA Council members are expected to attend six day-long Council meetings each year, together with some other committee and working group meetings. You should give your address, postcode and membership number when requesting a nomination form. The Byelaws governing the conduct of the elections to Council are available on the attached PDF document. The closing date for completed nomination forms is 3 pm on Friday 14 March 2008. On 21 May 2008 RSPCA members will be sent details about each candidate who is standing for election as a national Council member. Members will be able to register their votes by post or electronically. The results will be announced at the Society's Annual General Meeting on Saturday 28 June 2008 at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8 7NX.
