Alstoe has come to the aid of wild bird and owl charity, Wing and a Prayer, by donating a supply of its product Kesium (amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid), which has been found by the charity to be effective in treating baby and juvenile birds that have infected bite wounds from cats’ saliva.
Dee Emmett from the charity reported that the usual survival rate for such birds, using conventional drugs, is around 50 per cent. She advised that the charity’s veterinary surgeon had suggested trying Kesium and that “we are using your product to treat cat bitten babies with excellent results. Although it is still early in the season, I expect our survival rate on that sector to be significantly higher and it would seem that the drug kills the infection without the adverse effects seen with other drugs”.
Niall McFerran from Alstoe, a division of Sogeval, commented “after hearing about the treatment challenges from Dee, we were only too happy to help out this small charity by supplying them with some free product”.
Wing and a Prayer is a registered, self-funding charity, based in Norfolk, and last year took in 670 birds, some of which were sick, some injured and some babies. Its aim is to rehabilitate the birds and ultimately to release back into the wild.1895 views
