A highly-skilled expert in internal medicine for small animals is the latest recruit to join expanding Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Essex.

Chris Scudder has joined the multi-disciplinary team at Southfields after researching and completing a PHD in feline acromegaly at the Royal Veterinary College.

He’s now keen to use his expertise in small animal internal medicine and, in particular endocrine diseases including feline diabetes and acromegaly, to further extend the specialist care at the highly-regarded centre of excellence.

Chris said: “I am delighted to be joining Southfields. It is an exciting new challenge for me and a thrill to be working as part of such a great team.

“We have a large, comprehensive team here and there are big ambitions to further develop the scope and scale of the care we offer.

“I have a real interest in all aspects of internal medicine, so I’m here to hit the ground running and make a real contribution in those areas.”

Chris has addressed international and national veterinary conferences about his specialist work and, in 2015, presented his research to the Endocrine Society’s international conference.

He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2014, seven years after graduating with a distinction from the University of Bristol.

His dedication to duty is further illustrated by the fact he has four pets at home, all rescue animals he’s taken in.

Chris added: “You could say I take my work home with me!

“I have a cat called Sharky which has urinary and intestinal problems and needs careful care, a black Labrador called Nero which is a blood donor and also donates serum for eye treatments and I have two young tortoises which I adopted after their owner could no longer care for them.”

Southfields operations manager Daniel Hogan said: “We are delighted to welcome Chris to our team.

“He is a terrific addition to the practice as we continue to recruit a highly qualified team in order to offer a bespoke and exceptional service for patients and clients.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time at Southfields as all of our clinical and support teams expand, with the best possible people. Chris is not only an exceptional clinician but a great member of the team that will continue to expand a develop our world-class internal medicine service.”

Part of the growing Linnaeus Group, Southfields is carrying out a full refurbishment of its existing Laindon facilities and greatly extending its premises and staff, as well as installing new equipment.

As the transition progresses, new services and facilities will be created such as a cat ward, X-ray department and endoscopy and chemotherapy facilities.
