Cave Celebrates Exam Achievements And Shines A Light On Programme Success

Two student veterinary nurses at a leading south-west animal hospital are toasting exam success and have officially become registered veterinary nurses.
Anna Sharland and Amy Burrough from Linnaeus-owned Cave Veterinary Specialists near Wellington in Somerset passed their final exams with flying colours.
They are the first student veterinary nurses to qualify at the popular animal hospital by starting as patient care assistants, progressing to student veterinary nurses and now becoming registered veterinary nurses, with support from clinical supervisors and team members.
Anna and Amy studied their theory at Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing.
Their hard work and dedication started three years ago and the latest part of their learning has seen them enrolled on the Linnaeus referral nursing post-registration programme (PRP), where they have been joined by Connor Nicholls, who has returned to Cave from a first opinion practice.
Nele Van den Steen, clinical director at Cave, said: “Anna, Amy and Connor have shown tremendous dedication and commitment, and their hard work is paying off.
“Everyone at Cave is incredibly proud of all of them. They have consistently demonstrated a high level of excellence in everything they do and are fantastic members of our team.”
PRP is designed to equip newly qualified veterinary nurses with the skills and knowledge to work in a specialist-led referral practice.
Anna enjoys that the PRP means they get to work through different areas such as diagnostics, theatre, wards and dentistry.
“This course enables us to build on our experiences within each area and work on tasks that provide invaluable experience,” said Anna.
Meanwhile, Amy said: “My main passion is inpatient care, so I love working in wards. Once I have completed my post-registration programme I would like to rotate throughout the hospital.”
Connor, who has always wanted to work with animals, said: “Cave held an open day for students to help prepare them for their OSCEs. While I attended, I was told about the post-registration programme and I found this was the perfect opportunity for me to go back into referral nursing.
“I am hoping once I have finished the PRP and have gained experience in the many rotations this course may give me, I will have a better idea on the route I want to take, although at present I hope to work as part of a night nursing team.”
