Ceva Animal Health has raised £10,000 for the ground-breaking charity, Medical Detection Dogs, after completing the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge in Yorkshire.
The team, made up of customers and staff, scaled the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in under 12 hours, covering a total distance of more than 26 miles.
The £10,000 raised for Medical Detection Dogs will help support their work in training dogs to recognise life-threatening health conditions in humans. Using their sense of smell, dogs can be trained to identify the odour of cancer and support individuals who live with potentially dangerous health conditions, such as aggressive diabetes or narcolepsy.
Ginette Bryant from Ceva animal Health, said:
“The team at Ceva along with customers have spent months raising funds for this fantastic charity. The £10,000 will mean Medical Detection Dogs can put one dog through its training programme to detect and signal medical problems in humans.
“We’ll be continuing to support the charity throughout the year with our fundraising efforts and also hope to help highlight the importance of the work carried out by the dogs and their trainers.”
Dr Claire Guest, CEO and Director of Operations at Medical Detection Dogs, added:
“Fundraising is essential to allow us to continue to carry out our work and we rely heavily on donations from the public and other organisations.
“The support we’ve already received from the team at Ceva has been wonderful and their willingness to take up the Three Peaks Challenge goes to show how serious they are about raising money for the charity. We’re extremely grateful for all their help so far.”
The trek is part of a series of events planned by staff to raise money for the organisation which is Ceva’s chosen charity for 2012. In May the company raised more than £1,000 through fundraising at the BSAVA Congress and the company’s inaugural awards for Animal Welfare.1897 views
