A popular animal hospital in Runcorn is celebrating ‘six of the best’ as it sees its rotating interns successfully progress to residency or specific intern roles.

Among those taking on roles at Linnaeus-owned Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) is Maria Lucas as an internal medicine intern, Layla Thompson as a surgery intern and Serena Monti as surgery resident.

Meanwhile, Judy Soley moves to North Downs Specialist Referrals (NDSR) in Surrey as a medicine intern, Eva Garcia joins Davies Veterinary Specialists in Hertfordshire as an ophthalmology intern. Both animal hospitals are also owned by Linnaeus. Holly Wilson is progressing her career as a surgery intern.

Those wishing to follow their success are being encouraged to apply for a rotating internship at NWVS, as well as the other referral centres within Linnaeus, as it recruits for its next round of rotating interns, with applications closing mid-January.

Chantal Rosa, veterinary surgeon diplomate in internal medicine at NVWS, and who provides close support to the interns on the one-year programme, believes the success at NWVS is built on three key pillars.

Chantal said: “NWVS provides a very friendly working environment, while also providing excellent opportunities for career progression, alongside the opportunity for new interns to be exposed to their areas of interest.

“I would encourage those wanting to become a rotating intern in 2024 at NWVS to act quickly and make sure their submit their application before the fast-approaching deadline.”

Jenny Pearson, hospital manager at NWVS, said: “NWVS is ideally placed to help those starting out on their paths towards specialism by providing the knowledge and expertise they will need. The success of our latest rotating interns is testament to this.”

NWVS is one of the UK’s leading specialist-led animal hospitals. It offers care in anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
