A new campaign launched by Dogs Trust to encourage compliance with compulsory microchipping has been given a big boost with all 255 CVS practices signing up to support it.
With a law making microchipping compulsory set to come into force on 6 April 2016, the charity has launched a campaign in consultation with the BVA, BSAVA and SPVS to help drive up compliance levels in advance of the law coming into effect. It is asking practices to support it by offering free microchipping to their clients using their own stock of chips and their preferred microchip provider (as long as they are a registered member of the Microchip Trade Association). They then invoice Dogs Trust at a rate of £5 (+VAT) per dog chipped.
Commenting on CVS' participation, Barry Brackner, Marketing and Commercial Director, said: "Encouraging responsible pet ownership is very important to us and our staff know from hard experience the difference a microchip can make when an animal goes missing or meets with an accident. We already work closely with Dogs Trust in many areas and are delighted to support this latest initiative to increase rates of microchipping."
Elvira Meucci-Lyons, Campaign Manager at Dogs Trust, added: "Dogs Trust believes that the change in law relating to compulsory microchipping coming into effect in April 2016 represents an important step forward for dog welfare, and will help to reunite lost dogs with their owners and thereby reduce the numbers of dogs destroyed in English pounds. Working together we can make a positive difference and help tackle irresponsible dog ownership. Dogs Trust is helping dog owners comply with our new microchipping through our vets campaign and we are extremely pleased to have CVS on board.” 2653 views
