Essex Animal Hospital Makes International Clinical Appointments
A state-of-the-art Essex animal hospital has boosted its expert team with the appointment of two internationally-renowned specialist surgeons and an internal promotion.
Linnaeus-owned Southfields Veterinary Specialists, in Basildon, welcomes Veronique Livet and Francesco Gemignani to its state-of-the-art facility, while Veronica Rodino is promoted to a new position.
Veronique, who is now head of the orthopaedic service, graduated from France in 2013 before completing a rotating internship in small animal medicine in Canada. She returned to France for a surgical internship and ECVS residency and moved to the UK in 2019. She has been a ECVS diplomate since 2020.
Veronique said her ambition for her new role is to perform total hip replacements at Southfields.
She said: “I am passionate about orthopaedics, so I am looking forward to providing the best care for my patients and to continue learning more and more to be able to offer all the possible surgeries that we can perform. I am also looking forward to creating a strong and dedicated team within my service.”
Francesco joins Southfields as a surgery clinician looking after soft tissue and orthopaedic cases.
He graduated from the University of Pisa in Italy in 2003 and seven years later obtained the degree as Italian Small Animal Specialist from the University of Milan. An illustrious career to date has also seen Francesco obtain a PhD in Veterinary Science, a Master Science Programme in Oncology and a Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.
Francesco said: “Southfields is at the cutting edge for cancer treatment in the UK, combining radiotherapy with oncology and surgery. I cannot wait to offer multimodality treatment for cancer patients.”
Veronica, who graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain in 2010, joined Southfields in 2020 as a small animal surgery resident and has recently become a small animal surgery clinician.
Highlights in her career so far include her experience in veterinary academia from her several internships in well-known UK veterinary universities, as well as successfully attaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2018.
Veronica, who aims to pass her certifying examination in 2024 to become a recognised specialist in small animal surgery, said: “I would like to improve my experience in minimally invasive surgery, as it is an area that I would like to focus on in the future.”
Southfields, which moved into its state-of-the-art £16 million Basildon hospital last summer, offers specialist services such as anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiation and soft tissue surgery.
