Five New Clinicians For Growing Team At Somerset Animal Hospital

One of the South West’s leading veterinary referral centres has added five new clinicians to its expert team as part of its ongoing commitment to growth in 2022.
Linnaeus-owned Cave Veterinary Specialists, near Wellington, Somerset, has recruited newly-qualified internal medicine specialist Florence Wootton, who joins from the Royal Veterinary College.
Soft tissue surgery clinician David Haine also joins after completing his residency at fellow Linnaeus practice Dick White Referrals, and completing the quintet are veterinary surgeons Josh Hardwick (internal medicine), Oli Gilman (small animal surgery) and Erica Daly (anaesthesia).
Hospital director Claire Lawrence said their arrival means Cave’s plan to employ up to 14 new staff in 2022 remained on track, representing a 15 per cent increase in its overall workforce.
The animal hospital invested £500,000 in a major practice refurbishment over the winter of 2021, to create three new consultation rooms, a brand-new reception area and remodelled car park to support an ongoing increase in demand for its services.
Claire said: “The top priority at Cave is to provide outstanding specialist care for all our pet patients, their owners and the vets who referred their cases to us.
“Bringing in five new clinicians to boost our multi-disciplinary team will only enhance our ability to do that.
“So, we’re delighted they’ve joined our team of highly-experienced veterinary clinicians and specialists, all working with state-of-the-art equipment and technology to enable us to treat the most complex and challenging cases.”
Josh, who graduated from Bristol Vet School in 2015, said: “As a clinician who’s just completed residency training, I hope to bring first and foremost my enthusiasm and positive outlook with me to Cave.
“I enjoy all disciplines within internal medicine but have a particular interest in hepatobiliary disease and gastroenterology and particularly enjoy performing GI endoscopy.”
Oli, who qualified from the University of Bristol in 2015, added: “I enjoy all aspects of surgery, but my main interests include brachycephalic airway syndrome, laparoscopy and thoracic surgery.
“I’m enthusiastic to start a clinic for patients suffering with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome and also hope that we can begin offering more laparoscopic procedures in the near future as well.”
Erica said: “My keen interest in anaesthesia began during my undergraduate studies and I further developed this with an anaesthesia internship.
“My clinical interests include all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia and have a particular interest in local anaesthesia and the available techniques.”
Cave offers comprehensive, specialist-led services in anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedic surgery and soft tissue surgery.
