Petplan, the UK’s largest pet insurer, is using its Facebook page to support the Dogs Trust and Cats Protection in a new Like and Donate charity initiative. The insurer, which works with both animal charities, is encouraging pet lovers to donate a food pouch to either charity simply by “liking” the Petplan Facebook page.
With one “like” equalling one pouch of food, expect to see the cats vs. dogs affectionate rivalry hit the internet as pet lovers show their support for mutts or moggies. Petplan’s Facebook fans will also be able to track the progress of donations and encourage friends to visit the page and support their chosen charity.
Jacqui O’Beirne, Head of Digital Marketing at Dogs Trust commented: “At Dogs Trust we go through 48,000 pouches of dog food each year feeding our hungry hounds so we are very grateful to Petplan for choosing us as one of their charities for this Like and Donate scheme.”
Richard Howard, Cats Protection’s Partnership Fundraiser added: “Feeding the 6,200 cats that are in our care at any one time can be a struggle. This scheme will be a big help to our friendly felines.”
Simon Masding, Petplan’s Head of Sales and Partnerships explained: “This is a brand new charity initiative for Petplan and we will be rotating the charities on a bi-monthly basis to allow as many of our charity partners as possible to benefit. We’re aiming to feed 50,000 hungry mouths so whether you’re a fan of pooches or prefer a fluffy feline, head over to the Petplan Facebook page to cast your vote.”
