Linnaeus And AIS Academy Partnership Offers New Diagnostic Imaging Training To Residents

Diagnostic imaging residents at veterinary group Linnaeus are now taking advantage of new training opportunities from Antech Imaging Services (AIS).
The AIS Academy is offering residents at Linnaeus exclusive access to its internal CPD courses and team of teleradiologists. It aims to complement the training and support offered by Linnaeus’s residency programme and hospital network.
To date, 12 residents from six Linnaeus hospitals across the UK are part of the joint training programme, with more residents set to join this year. The hospitals are: Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists, Davies Veterinary Specialists, Dick White Referrals, Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, North Downs Specialist Referrals and Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service.
The online training offered by AIS Academy includes: weekly known case conferences, live weekly rounds focusing on different syllabus topics, theoretical mock exams on the same software used in the exams, and support for research publications. A known case database provides access to AIS’s global image store.
Due to the number of AIS radiologists, the programme also offers bespoke training that enables residents to focus on key areas of interest. Additional 1 to 1 sessions are offered to final year residents preparing for their certifying examination, with a yearly mock certifying exam that took place in Bologna, Italy, last year. The resources and support available mean that AIS Academy’s exam success rate stands at 94%.
Andrew Parry, Head of Diagnostic Imaging Services at Linnaeus, commented:

It allows for enhanced teaching resources for Linnaeus diagnostic imaging residents from specialists across the world. AIS has already enabled our imaging residents to access the CPD offered to its radiologists and this further initiative provides even more support.”
As well as offering more than 100 residencies across 10 disciplines, Linnaeus also supports 75 rotating interns and 35 discipline-specific interns, who can progress into residencies and train as specialists.

Working with the AIS Academy also enables us to offer greater opportunities to learn while also supporting the workload of our team of radiologists, who would otherwise need to provide all the didactic training.”
AIS has a global network of more than 125 radiologists, who work with over 18,000 veterinary hospitals worldwide. It has more than 920 million stored images, which can be accessed by Linnaeus for training and CPD.
Dr Swan Specchi, European Residency Liaison at AIS, said:
“Our AIS Academy launched in 2020 and works with veterinary hospitals across Europe. With Linnaeus established as our UK partner, we are now looking to widen our training programme in 2023. By providing flexible, online training we can ensure that anyone keen to pursue a diagnostic imaging residency can access the support they need.”
Domenico Sainato, a diagnostic imaging resident at Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, is taking part in the AIS training. He added:
“I have decided to pursue a residency in imaging to expand my knowledge of my favourite subject and provide the best possible care to my patients. The remote support offered by AIS has been excellent and complements the fantastic guidance from the team at Eastcott, particularly my supervisor Helen Renfrew.
“Combining my training at Eastcott with the virtual resources at AIS has helped me to improve my theoretical and practical expertise. Swan is also an amazing mentor and I have enjoyed developing new friendships with the other residents I study with.”
