I became a partner to move up the practising vet career ladder
On the 20th April Luke Knowles BVSc BSc MRCVS opened his brand new practice in Loughborough and hosted an Open Day for the local community, giving his new practice a healthy kick start.
“Luke’s practice is Vets4Pets 93rd practice, the 5th to open this year. Becoming a Vets4Pets Partner and when to do it is a very personal decision and for most Partners it’s about timing. There is no ‘right’ time to become a Partner everyone has their individual motivations”. Says Malcolm Norman, Luke’s Partner Relationship Manager.
Luke explains why he wanted to open his own practice; “I wanted to become a Partner and move up the practising vet career ladder but found it increasingly frustrating to do that in established vet practices. Opening my own practice would enable me to be my own boss, instil my work ethic into a new team and hopefully build a successful business which did the best for our patients. The idea of someone else looking after the majority of the more tedious business aspects is a great help too and will hopefully let me spend more time at home with my family not thinking about work”.

Everyone’s experience of opening their practice is very different. Not one opening is the same, the flexible but robust process the Partner Relationship Team take all new Partners through allows each Partner to do things at their own pace, ensuring they are one hundred percent comfortable at every stage.
“I first heard of Vets4Pets about 6 years ago when I got a Vets4Pets mug through the post, the brand must have stuck with me from then on as Vets4Pets were the only company I looked at when I thought of going out on my own. Having 3 hour chats over tea with Malcolm while my 21 month old Sofia crawled around our feet was the beginning of the “journey”, and a great help in understanding the JVP model and how it could work for me. I learned a lot about finances and had to read a couple of books to keep up with the financial jargon. My favourite part was going over to Guernsey to meet the team there – at that point I felt I was becoming part of the Vets4Pets family” explains Luke.
Luke continues; “One piece of advice you’d give a fellow veterinary professional looking to open their own practice: make sure it’s the right thing for you. There is a lot of hard work involved with being your own boss. But if you were going to do it then Vets4Pets is a great place to start looking”.
If any Veterinary professionals would like to open their own practice like Luke, they can contact the Vets4Pets team on 0800 0280 513 or via email [email protected] for an informal chat.3127 views
