June sees the fourth annual National Microchipping Month organised by the Kennel Club, with special microchipping events for dogs being held in parks across London.
The park events are part of a nationwide campaign to encourage and promote responsible pet ownership through microchipping.
From central London to Richmond, the parks provide easy access to the microchipping service, offering free and reduced rate microchipping while stocks last. Specially trained personnel will be in attendance to carry out this simple procedure, which gives peace of mind to owners, should their pet ever go missing,
It is also a great opportunity for pet owners to develop their understanding of microchipping and the support and services available to them and their pets through Petlog, the Kennel Club’s Pet identification service.
The events are sponsored by chip suppliers Bayer and Pet ID, and Petlog will be working in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Royal Parks Unit.
Simon Broughton of the Metropolitan Police comments “Dogs and owners do become separated, and it often falls upon the police to re-unite them, so this event is very relevant to the environment that we police and the community we serve.”
With thousands of pets going missing every year, implanting a microchip vastly increases a pet’s chances of getting home safely.
Said Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary: “Losing your pet can be a devastating experience. However, it’s reassuring to know that when your pet does go missing there are people you can turn to for support and information. We’re pleased to be working with Bayer, Pet ID, and the Metropolitan Police; together we can raise awareness of the importance of microchipping through National Microchipping Month, as there are still thousands of pet owners in the United Kingdom who are unaware of the service available should their pet ever go missing, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
