Croft Vets, the North East’s leading veterinary practice, has opened the doors to its state of the art flagship veterinary hospital. North East’s leading veterinary hospital opens its doors Malcolm and Judith of Croft's The £3million investment by Croft Vets has provided the group with much needed additional capacity, allowing the regionally and nationally acclaimed veterinary surgeons to provide their exceptional expertise to more clients from both the North East and further afield. The group currently boasts eight surgeries, as well as a dedicated Cat Clinic, and the addition of the new hospital at Northumberland Business Park West in Cramlington, Northumberland, has enhanced the out of hours and surgical service offered to local pets. The hospital, which was designed and built as a joint project between Croft Vets and Meldrum Construction, provides a centre of veterinary excellence in all aspects of surgery and medicine both for clients of Croft and for patients referred from other vets across the region. The new 24-hour emergency and surgical facility not only houses the most up to date and state of the art diagnostic and surgical facilities in the UK but is also unique in the region by providing comprehensive specialist veterinary care. It is also the site for the expansion and development of existing referral services for vets across the region. Croft Vets has invested more than £800,000 in the provision of new technology for the animal hospital, including a CT scan suite and hydrotherapy pool, as well as upgrading the existing x-ray facilities to digital, allowing better resolution of the X-ray and digital storage and recall. Malcolm Ness and Judith Joyce, founding partners of Croft Vets, are leading the development of Croft as it aims to expand its offering to the pets of the North East. Malcolm said: “Our ethos is Care with Excellence and this new extension to our practice reflects that. Our group exists to provide the best possible care to family pets and working dogs across the region. The service we provide is intended to be the best in every possible way, combining a core understanding of our patients needs along with the most up to date technology and medicine practice. “We aim to be medically effective, accessible and personal offering a friendly service that encourages both direct patients and referral vets to reuse our service time after time. The new hospital is an intrinsic way of keeping those values whilst we grow and develop our business. “We now have access to some of the best equipment in the UK as well as four operating theatres and dedicated cat, dog and rabbit wards. We’re delighted to see our plans for the hospital come to fruition, it’s great to see it up and running and most importantly it’s great to provide the best care to pets of the North East.” The dedicated animal wards have been introduced to assist with the outcome of surgery, creating a quiet, stress free area for housing and recovery. Each ward is complete with webcam technology to allow monitoring of inpatients with minimal disturbance to the patients. Currently, Malcolm is the only veterinary surgeon in the region to be recognised and registered as a Specialist by both the RCVS and the ECVS. Needless to say Malcolm has an international reputation in his field, and teaches throughout Europe and North America as well as the UK. In addition to mentoring students and veterinary students in advanced veterinary orthopaedics, Malcolm also lectures and examines for the RCVS Certificate and Specialist Diploma. Malcolm’s interest lies in all aspects of companion animal surgery and clinical care. His research interest in the biomechanics of the bone and joint disease has led to him working with two colleagues to develop a novel bone plate, which is now used widely in veterinary medicine.
