A Sheffield vets has been praised for its outstanding care for pets after being formally recognised as an animal hospital.

Peak Vets, in Woodseats, has been awarded hospital status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the regulatory body for the veterinary industry, as part of its Practice Standards Scheme (PSS).

The PSS is a voluntary initiative to accredit veterinary practices in the UK, which aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.

The accreditation means the practice has gone over and above the basic standards required, with additional facilities and protocols in place for the investigation and treatment of more complex cases.

For any practice to be accredited under the PSS, it needs to demonstrate it meets a broad range of stringent standards, all observed during a rigorous independent assessment completed every four years.

In their assessment of Peak, which is part of Linnaeus, the PSS assessor said: “It was a pleasure to meet such a dedicated and enthusiastic team. Everyone was confident about their roles and their overall contribution to the success of the practice.”

Nigel Smallwood, clinical director at Peak Vets, said: “To receive such a ringing endorsement from the RCVS is testament to the hard work and dedication of our caring team here at Peak.

“Having the animal hospital sign above the door is reassurance for owners that their pets will be treated with the utmost care and compassion when they are with us.

“We are absolutely delighted with the accreditation and will continue to work hard to maintain our high standards.”
