The head of surgery at one of the UK’s leading referral veterinary practices has been appointed as an editor of a prestigious international industry publication.

Veterinary Surgery has appointed Dr Janet Kovak McClaran, of London Vet Specialists (LVS), as small animal associate editor for minimally invasive surgery.

Veterinary Surgery, the official publication of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) and the Veterinary Endoscopy Society (VES), is the source for up to date articles on advances in surgical techniques.

As part of her role, Dr McClaran, an American and European board-certified surgical specialist who has been with LVS for two years, will focus on minimally invasive surgery manuscripts. These original articles cover developments in endoscopic surgery and which present the most current review of this exciting field.

Dr McClaran said: “I have been a member of the editorial board and a regular contributor to the journal for years so I am honoured to have been appointed. I’m delighted to be taking up this role with Veterinary Surgery, which is such a well-respected and well-read publication within the industry.”

Before joining LVS as head of surgery two years ago, Dr McClaran, who teaches minimally invasive surgery courses at regional and national conferences, was head of the Department of Surgery at the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York, one of the largest veterinary hospitals in the world.

LVS, which is based in central London, is the only centre in the capital to offer a dedicated multi-disciplinary vet referral service, together with a specialist emergency and critical care service.
