This year it was bigger, better and in the capital in Primrose Hill thanks to proud patron Meg Mathews and its ever growing list of dog-loving celebrity supporters. Anyone and everyone could come along to join in the fun and enter their dog into the many different dog show categories– which included Prettiest Bitch, Handsomest Dog, Child’s Best Friend, Campest Dog in London (judged by Sarah Harding), My Dog’s Got Talent and the prestigious title of London’s Coolest Dog. Meanwhile Joanna Page, star of Gavin & Stacey, introduced the Parade of Rescued Puppy Farm Ex-Breeding Bitches, several dogs that were fortunate to survive appalling treatment to lend their presence to the PupAid cause. PupAid founder and TV vet Marc Abraham said: “I was blown away by the number of people who turned up to show their support making this a truly special day, and my team and I would like to thank everyone involved. “While it was a unique afternoon in the sun for famous faces, families and their dogs to mingle, it is the next step into raising public awareness of the horrific conditions many dogs are reared in, and to promote choosing a dog responsibly i.e. adopting from rescue or asking to see the pup interacting with its mum in its breeding environment. We are already looking forward to coming back next year. I’d also like to thank our sponsors Specsavers, James Wellbeloved, Adaptil and PetsInsureTogether.” Love dogs, hate puppy farms Breeding bitches and pups are usually kept in horrific, dark, cramped conditions akin to battery farms. They are often riddled with painful disease, many of which are infectious, inbred and often incurable. Marc Abraham said: “No responsible breeder would ever give their pups to a pet shop or pass them on to a dealer without meeting the pup’s prospective owners first. Any person or family who wants a puppy should always go to either a rescue centre or to a responsible breeder where they should ask the see the mother - unless it’s a farmed puppy there is no reason the mother should not be there”.
