A leading south-west London vet practice has secured a prestigious national environmental accolade for its surgeries.

Linnaeus-owned Vet4Life, which has veterinary practices in Shepperton, Teddington and Surbiton, has been awarded bronze accreditation by Investors in the Environment (iiE), a nationwide initiative which encourages firms to introduce cleaner, more sustainable and environmentally friendly ways of working.

Among the raft of green measures introduced at the vet practice to achieve the prestigious award were actions to further manage and reduce waste and a strong commitment to reduce anaesthetic gas use.

Other measures include the ongoing implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS).

Speaking on behalf of the ‘green team’ at Vet4Life, Emily Barrs, customer care and admin manager who has been at the forefront of implementing the green changes, said: “We fully understand how important it is for the business to be as environmentally friendly as possible and that we back up our words with actions.”

Future green initiatives at Vet4Life include considering waste inputs into the practice, with the switch to reusable alternatives including scrub hats, tube ties, drapes and gowns.

Vet4Life has also started to consider business and commuter travel, implementing policies and actions to encourage the uptake of more sustainable transport methods.

“We’re very proud to have achieved this environmental award but we will not rest on our laurels and will continue to find ways to further reduce our environmental impact,” added Emily.
