A popular veterinary practice in St Albans has made four new appointments as part of its new out-of-hours service.

Linnaeus-owned Village Vet’s new night vets are Mikel Arrese, Ana Dores, Katerina Metelkova and Carolina Martinez.

The out-of-hours service treats emergencies and critically ill patients, while also looking after in-patients at the practice.

Mikel graduated from Spain in 2001 and has worked in the UK since, including 10 years as a night vet.

Mikel said: “I like emergency medicine and surgery, I find it very interesting. I also hope to continue growing as an emergency and critical care vet.”

Ana graduated from Lisbon University in Portugal in 2018 and moved to the UK. She has experience working in first opinion vets and has experience in night shifts and dealing with emergencies.

Ana said: “As a night vet my priority is to give the best care to all unwell and critical patients that come to the practice but also the ones that are in the hospital already.”

Katerina graduated in 2018 and has experience as a veterinary surgeon. She has also worked in a veterinary referral clinic in Prague and as lead night vet for Village Vet.

Katerina said: “I aim to create a strong and dedicated night team that will help to expand the out-of-hours service at our practice.”

Carolina graduated from the University of La Plata in Argentina and has previously worked in Spain concentrating on feline medicine. She moved to the UK in 2021 as an emergency vet.

Carolina said: “My ambition is to keep specialising in emergency medicine and further improve my skills in emergency surgery.”
