Top Neurologist To Join Southfields Veterinary Specialists
Leading Essex referral centre Southfields Veterinary Specialists is adding a top neurologist to bolster its industry-leading department next month.
Southfields, which is part of the Linnaeus Group, has recruited the experienced and well-travelled Marco Ruggeri to their talented team.
Marco has studied and worked across Europe, honing and adding to his neurology knowledge and skills including in his homeland of Italy, in Spain, France, Finland, Israel and the UK.
Henry L'Eplattenier, clinical director at Southfields, said: “We’re really pleased to have persuaded Marco to join us and we are all excited about his arrival.
“He is a very talented neurologist who brings with him a wealth of experience which makes him a very valuable addition to our world-class team.”
Marco’s main interests are in neuro-radiology and neuro-surgery and he will join Southfields at their state-of-the-art Laindon base in May.
He is relishing the challenge, saying: “I’m really looking forward to joining such a leading referral centre with all the expert staff and high-class services Southfields has to offer.
“I love animals and working to help try and improve their lives and their health.
“As a boy growing up by Lake Garda, in Italy, I was surrounded by animals and I’m still the same today.
“With my wife Omer we have a large animal family with two dogs, two birds, two hamsters and a bearded dragon!”
Marco attended Milan University, and after completing an internship at the Ecole nationale vétérinaire de Maison Alfort, in France, he graduated in veterinary medicine in 2008.
He spent a year at Milan working in the university’s pathology department before joining a referral clinic in Rome where he developed his special interest in neurology.
In 2010, he went to Spain to work exclusively in neurology before moving to a large London clinic three year later to head up an MRI unit for two years.
Finland was his next port of call when, in 2015, Marco chose to focus on a key research project as part of a specialist group studying neurogenesis.
The Koret Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Jerusalem beckoned in May 2016, where Marco embarked on a three-year residency in Neurology.
Now he’s joining the multi-discipline world of Southfields, which offers industry-leading specialist care in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, feline medicine, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, orthopaedics, radiation and soft tissue surgery.
