Internationally-renowned vet professionals Dan Fletcher, Megan Brashear and Chloé Hannigan will lead a list of high-profile speakers at this year’s Vets Now emergency and critical care Congress.

The event, at the Royal Armouries, Leeds, in November, will focus on the latest developments, theories and best practice in emergency veterinary medicine as well as resilience and wellbeing.

Other speakers will include Miles Hilton Barber, the blind adventurer who will discuss never giving up, veterinary cardiology specialist Kieran Borgeat, and Claire Sharp, a senior lecturer at Murdoch University vet school in Australia.

A record 850 delegates, including vets, vet nurses and practice managers, are expected to attend the event and there will be lecture streams for people at every stage of their veterinary careers.

Specialist vet Dan Lewis, Vets Now’s national ECC lead, devised the Congress programme.

He said its main purpose was to bring together vets, vet nurses and the world’s leading ECC experts under one roof to share their knowledge, experience and insights in how to deal with pet emergencies.

But he added that there will also be lectures and events dedicated to wellness, resilience and dealing with adversity.

“When you walk around the Vets Now ECC congress you can feel the excitement, interest and passion that it generates,” said Dan. “Our aim is for everybody who attends to go back to their practices and say ‘I had a great time, I learned loads, and now I'm going to tell you about that’.

“We’re already really excited about this year’s event and plan to deliver more fresh and inspiring content for our delegates than ever before.

“This will again include a dedicated stream on wellbeing, which remains an important issue for everyone in the veterinary profession.”

The annual ECC Congress, and accompanying exhibition and gala dinner, has been held in Yorkshire since 2004.

It has since grown into one of the biggest events of its kind in the world — offering delegates more than 70 hours of CPD under one roof.  This includes lectures, discussion forums and interactive workshops. Last year’s keynote speaker was consultant anaesthetist Professor Kevin Fong.

Congress isn’t only about learning, however, as each night will also feature a different social event to allow delegates to network and relax after a day’s learning.

The Thursday night Gala dinner — to be held at the neighbouring New Dock Hall — will have a winter wonderland theme. It follows on from last year’s hugely successful movies night which featured a performance from “Boogie Storm” of ITV’s Britains Got Talent.

Registration is now open to everyone in the profession, including veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, practice managers, receptionists, recent graduates and students.

Delegates are strongly urged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets for the event, on 5 and 6 November 2020, are now available at www.vets-now.com/congress.
