Date: Tuesday 7th July, 2026 - Tuesday 7th July, 2026
Start time: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Duration: 1 hour(s)
Cost: £750

Key to developing proficiency in non-elective surgical procedures is access to hands-on practical time to hone our manual skills. Students enrolled on the perineal hernia/urethral surgery course will have the benefit of maximised laboratory time where these surgical procedures are performed on cadavers. The necessary theory and case management details are covered via a mixture of pre-recorded lectures and review lectures on the day.

Hands-on surgical practice:

· Perineal herniorrhaphy using internal obturator muscle transposition (cadaver surgery)

· Urethrotomy and urethrostomy in dogs (cadaver surgery)

Pre-view lectures:

· Perineal anatomy, local anaesthetic procedures and case investigations

· Diagnosis and initial management of urethral obstruction. Case-based decision making.

Real-time lectures:

· Herniorrhaphy (hernia repair) using internal obturator muscle transposition, other surgical options, and managing complications

· Urethrotomy and urethrostomy in the dog – anatomy and surgical technique
