BEVA is inviting delegates to get in on the act at this year’s Congress 12-15 September 2018, with a series of role play sessions to help them get to grips with managing some of the notoriously difficult situations encountered in equine practice.

The demonstration sessions in the exhibition area at BEVA Congress have become very popular with delegates since they were introduced a couple of years ago. This year’s will involve a series of three sessions on the Friday afternoon. At the beginning of each 45 minute event a series of actors will take examples of conflict situations from the delegates that are watching and will base their role play round these scenarios.

Each session will cover a different topic:

·      Session 1: The potential bad debt?

·      Session 2: Dealing with difficult news

·      Session 3: When you’ve got to stand your ground

While actors rather than delegates will be performing the role play, delegates will be very much involved with steering situations and outcomes. You can watch some taster videos here .

BEVA President Jon Pycock explains: “Our latest survey of BEVA members highlighted that client communication is one if the biggest challenges faced by horse vets. As part of Congress’s integral theme of celebrating all that’s good about being a horse vet, these role play sessions will help you see the good bits and the funny side of client situations as well as help you build skills to deal with the tricky side of conflict management.”

This year’s BEVA Congress highlights include special sessions on reproduction, non-clinical aspects of being a vet, succession planning and a moral maze debate on specials manufacturing. There will be specific lecture streams for veterinary nurses, equine dental technicians and farriers and Dr Juan Samper, Associate Dean for students and instruction at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine will be giving the plenary lecture on the challenges and opportunities in equine practice.

BEVA Congress 2018 will be held at the popular ICC in central Birmingham from 12-15 September 2018. To view the full programme and to book your ticket visit www.bevacongress.org.
