IVC Evidensia are delighted to announce that Finbarr Heslin, has been appointed as the inaugural Chair of their Irish Clinical Board.

Finbarr is a highly respected clinician and advocate for animal welfare and legislative change.

A native of Ireland, he has spent much of his veterinary career in general practice but also acting as a consultant to charity and government working parties in areas such as puppy farming and microchipping.

John Dinsdale, Chief Veterinary Advisor for the UK and Ireland said,

“Establishing a Clinical Board in Ireland, under Finbarr’s capable stewardship, will ensure that we continue to meet and exceed the needs of our patients and clinical teams in all our markets. Our Clinical Boards are a cornerstone of our company, providing a powerful forum for our teams to share best practice.”

As a Clinical Board Chair, Finbarr will also join the company’s Group Veterinary Medical Board (GVMB).

Alistair Cliff, Chair of the GVMB said,

“We are thrilled to welcome Finbarr to our team, where we can be sure his energy, experience and knowledge will drive our agenda of improving animal wellbeing across all 12 of our countries.”

Finbarr graduated from the Dublin Vet School in June 1993. After three years in mixed practice, he opened the Beaufield Veterinary Centre in January 1996. He has long been an advocate for animal welfare and legislative change in that area and has worked extensively on the problem of Irish Greyhounds in Spain. He worked as the ISPCA’s consultant veterinary surgeon during which he advised on Dog Control measures, and on countless cruelty cases that came before the courts.

He was appointed by the Minister for the Environment to chair a working group whose recommendations were the basis of the 2010 Dog Breeding Establishment Bill. He also was heavily involved in the drafting of the Microchipping of Dogs Regulations 2015.

He continues to advocate passionately for animal welfare reform in many areas, both at National and European level.
