Kind-hearted Meg Is A Cut Above For Charity
A kind-hearted veterinary receptionist has braved a drastic new look in order to raise thousands of pounds and donate hair to charities which support people dealing with cancer.
Meg Wellum, a senior receptionist at Linnaeus-owned Woodward Veterinary Practice, in Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, has cut off more than 40cm of her traditionally long, flowing hair which will be donated to The Little Princess Trust.
The charity uses donations to make real-hair wigs for children who are battling with cancer.
Alongside this, Meg has been raising money for Macmillan Cancer Trust and has so far reached just over £4,000, smashing her original target of £2,000.
Meg said: “The reason I am doing this is because cancer hits close to home for me and my family. My beautiful mum Wendy was diagnosed firstly with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, which then turned into Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
“Then towards the end stage, while in remission, we were dealt a final blow as she was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
“Mum fought until the very end and always told us she was going to ‘kick cancer’s bum’. I was always so proud of how she took it in her stride and now it is my turn to do her proud and raise as much money as possible for a charity that was there for her in her time of need.
“Having said that, she would probably have a few choice words about me cutting my hair off as she loved my long hair and would never let me cut it!
“I know she will be proud of me doing this for such a great cause.”
Sam Barton, clinical director at Woodward Veterinary Practice, said: “We’re all so proud of Meg for raising so much money and awareness for such a vital cause.
“She is a very kind-hearted and caring person and we all know what this means to her, so we’ve been more than happy to support her. We certainly think her new look suits her!”
