KRKA UK has launched a new educational resource to help dog owners recognise, understand and manage osteoarthritis (OA) earlier and more effectively. The Dog Owner’s Guide to Joint Health provides practical, accessible advice on lifelong joint care and is now available on Krka’s Veterinary Knowledge Hub as well as to pick up at stand D21 at BVA Live 2026.

Developed as part of KRKA’s ongoing commitment to OA education, the guide combines evidence-based information with practical owner-focused support, encouraging earlier conversations around joint health and proactive intervention. The resource highlights that OA is not simply an “old dog disease” - with an estimated 38% of dogs over one year old affected by arthritis,1 the condition can begin far earlier in life than many owners realise.

The guide also reinforces the importance of a multimodal approach to OA management, covering areas including weight control, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, pain management, environmental adaptations and owner engagement. For veterinary teams, it serves as a practical take-home tool – reinforcing key clinical messages between appointments and supporting client engagement when consult time is limited.

Orthopaedic specialist Professor Stuart Carmichael FRCVS, who has collaborated with KRKA on a range of OA educational initiatives, said, “One of the biggest opportunities we have in osteoarthritis is identifying risk earlier and supporting owners before significant joint deterioration occurs. Helping owners understand that OA can begin much earlier in life allows practices to take a more proactive and individualised approach to joint care.”

The guide also draws on insights from Danielle Everett PgD qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist and Canine Hydrotherapist, reinforcing that the best outcomes for OA patients are achieved when veterinary and rehabilitation teams work together.

Danielle commented, “Simple lifestyle adjustments, tailored exercise and appropriate rehabilitation support can make a significant difference to comfort and mobility in dogs with OA. Resources that help owners understand those changes are incredibly valuable in improving quality of life and long-term health.”

The launch comes ahead of BVA Live 2026, where KRKA UK will continue its focus on osteoarthritis education and practical pain management support for veterinary professionals. Visitors to the KRKA stand, D21, will be able to learn more about the company’s OA initiatives, educational resources, and growing companion animal portfolio.

The Dog Owner’s Guide to Joint Health is available now from KRKA UK. If you are attending BVA Live 2026, the guides will also be available to pick up on the stand D21. For more information, email [email protected].
