A highly-respected pet hospital in the West Midlands has started the New Year by enhancing its reputation as one of the UK’s top centres of excellence for total hip replacement (THR) surgery.

Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service, in Solihull, now boasts an expert team of six orthopaedic surgeons qualified to carry out the complex operations.

Alexis Bilmont, a European specialist in small animal surgery, is the latest in the Willows team to gain his THR accreditation.

Alexis, originally from the south of France, now joins fellow veterinary surgeons Toby Gemmill, Jonathan Pink, Steve Clarke, Bill Oxley and Kinley Smith in one of the largest and most experienced teams in the country.

Toby Gemmill, who is also clinical director at Willows, said: “Alexis has been a great addition to our team, and with his THR accreditation, we can offer even more high-quality care and treatment to our patients.

“We are able to perform total hip replacements on all patients from the smallest dog or cat, weighing only a couple of kilos, right up to the largest dogs weighing more than 100kg.

“Importantly, the skills of the THR team are also complimented by the support and assistance of on-site Specialists in imaging, anaesthesia and critical care, and a highly-skilled nursing team.

“This allows us to take a multi-disciplinary approach to our cases which is one of the major benefits of working at, and being treated at, a hospital such as Willows, where the facilities and staff are both top class.”

Willows is widely recognised for its ground-breaking work in the THR field and the addition of Alexis will further strengthen its status in the profession.

Staff at the leading referral centre, which is part of the Linnaeus Group, have also shared their experience and expertise in THR within the industry in the UK and abroad.

Mr Gemmill said: “We are proud of our 20 years’ experience of performing hip replacements here at Willows, in which time we have improved the quality of life of hundreds of dogs and cats.

“We are also very happy to share our knowledge and experience in this discipline with others in the field. Our vets have published numerous scientific papers on total hip replacements and given presentations at conferences and meetings around the world.”

Willows is currently offering a fixed price package for hip replacements. For details, or for more information on Willows, call 0121 712 7070 or visit www.willows.uk.net.
